Love thy Customer! Why should we love our Customers?

It’s a nippy -2ºC outside and my heart has just gotten warmer! I’m sitting in my warm flat in Barcelona, Spain.. thinking about my clients in northern Europe, where it’s even colder. And yet, I’m bursting with excitement at a new client engagement scheduled for early Q1 of 2011!

In a sense, this client is no different from any other.. when given a chance to help anyone overcome a challenge, or a struggle in their lives, that’s when I’m at my best.. that’s when I’m the most excited and passionate about what I do for a living!

It’s the opportunity of helping someone free themselves from a current challenge, or grasp that golden ring which is just inches from their reach. It’s what burns a fire in my belly.. the opportunity to celebrate with my client, or whomever I’m partnering with. To score that magical goal, so that we can run a lap around the stadium with our trophy raised high above our heads in the air.

Passion gets you the gigs!

A lot of people often ask me what’s needed in order to be successful. If there are two entrepreneurs or business people with equal skills, funding, competence, ideas & resources.. who will most likely be more successful? I always respond.. “the one with the greatest passion for what they’re doing!” Funny enough, when my new client gave his feedback as to the various candidates he was considering, it was my passion (and their lack of it) that had me stand-out in the crowd.

That was the best gift he could have given me, especially at this time of year!

How are you connecting with your clients?

If you’re like anyone else at this time of year, you’re reflecting back on what’s been good & not in 2010. You’re scratching your head wondering what’s going to be different next year. How can we make 2011 a better year?!?!?!

This year also marks the end of a decade, so maybe you’re looking back on the last 10 years and evaluating the twists & turns you’ve come along in your journey. Whether your clients are internal or external, if they aren’t driving your fire (in a good sense) and making you want to work that much harder to get more of what you’re feeling, then you’re in the wrong line of business, or the wrong organization all-together.

What can you do to make a difference?

How do great customers help?

I’ve just put down a 22 page analysis of the challenges my client was facing back in 2009. I’m busting at the seams to learn what they’ve done in the past year, what progress have they witnessed, so that I can figure out how I can accelerate their journey. I’m thirsting for more information because I want to put together a great plan for success. I’m counting the days, like a child before Christmas eve, to engage with their teams & figure out how to best help them!

I’m a kid in a candy shop, and the candy are all of the challenges we’re going to tackle together!

Show me the learning, development & growth!

It’s gotta be more than just about “the money”, and the reason I love engaging with my clients is that whilst they learn to overcome their challenges, I too learn, develop & grow with them in the process of finding their ideal solutions!
